Starting Your New Year Off Right.

Well dear readers it has been far too long since I have posted. A wasted blog is an unhappy blog, so this year I must step up my game as a writer and honor myself and my readers more. I will be reworking Miss Oya's Herbal World and revamping but until then I wanted to share with you some things. I was reading another awesome blog Sex, Magick & the City by a writer who frequents the same online haunts as I do and it seems our Grandmothers taught us the same thing 'How you sit on New's Day (meaning what you do that day) is how you will sit the rest of the year.' So here I sit writing to you all.

I hope everyone had a great New Year's eve, cleansed your house, body and soul. If not don't despair it isn't too late. Take a few smudge sticks of either sage or cedar or incense, have no sage or cedar you can use sandalwood, frankincense, myrrh or any blessing and purifying blend and smudge your house from back to the front door sweeping out all the negativity from the old year. Sprinkle down your steps with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar, yes cinnamon and sugar, to bring prosperity to your door. Then take a shower with your favorite cleansing herbal baths. Save a cup of that water from the shower or bath and throw it out to the east. That is just a basic cleansing but you don't want to do to much cleaning than that if you haven't done any before New Year's Day. Why? Because you don't want to be cleaning all year now do you?

Once all that is done, set you day doing what you want to be doing all year. Superstitious, yes it is but so is 'a kiss at midnight from your loved one', fireworks at midnight use to be used to scare away the evil spirits and who of us haven't heard the first person who visits you on New Years is bringing you good or bad luck? Or go back a holiday to Christmas and mistletoe, got to kiss that person standing under it right? Our lives are riddled with superstitions we don't even think about. But there fun.

New Year's resolutions, ah now there is another one people wouldn't even call a superstition . But it is if you think about it. Every year we greet each other with 'Happy New Year's, so what is your New Year's resolution?' So what is your New Year's resolution? If you haven't thought about it think on it now. What do you want to accomplish this year. My New Year's resolution was to set myself up for success. I didn't make a resolution I made a list, mentally. Tomorrow I will write it all out because I don't want to be plotting my year all year!

Some thing to keep in mind is keep it simple, keep it realistic. Don't set yourself up for failure. Who doesn't want to lose a 100 pounds this year, get more healthy, write 100 books or even read 100 books, run a marathon even? But really if we could do that we wouldn't be making the same tired old resolutions year after year. So break it down in to what you can realistically do, but still push yourself towards your goal. Then as Nike use to say, just do it.

Remember what I said about what my grandmother use to say, 'What you do on New Years is what you will be doing all year.' You now have a goal so today is the day to start, not tomorrow or next week or after the holiday is over. Today. If you want to workout run that marathon, lose some weight start today. Take some you time out today even if it is just 15 to 30 minutes and jump on it, then spend the rest of the day doing what you want to fill the rest of your year with. Now that you have your goal set, your realistic resolution, what else do you want to fill your year with?

Want to spend more time with the family, break out the board games, play with the kids. Go visit mom and dad. Want to surround yourself with friends, call up a few hung over friends and see if they want to hang out. No need to spend your day running around like a nut trying to do a bunch of stuff you can just relax with them, share some laughs. Want to have more romance in 2012, call up or email that person you have had your eye on for sometime and wish them a Happy New Year, invite them for coffee or just to hang out. If they say no, don't feel rejected move on to the next thing you want. You tried. See, if you have the courage to do it on this day you will have the courage to do it some other time this year and hopefully sooner than later.

New Year's is about new possibilities, a whole fresh clean slate to do what you want to do, out with the old in with the new. That is why we have yet another superstition baby New Year, rebirth. So the final thought of today is Spend Your day Doing what you want to do for the rest of 2012, even if it is just to relax. Don't waste a precious new year a rebirth doing the same tired old things. Start enjoying life today, like me, I call myself a writer, so today I took a half hour out of my day, just a small chunk of the 24 hours to sit and write. Now I am off to finish the rest of my list of what I want to accomplish this year. See it really is as simple as that.
